2017 Scott Foil Premium

2017 Scott Foil Premium

The FOIL made a name for itself racking up stage wins in the Tour de France, wins at Milan San Remo and Liege Bastogne Liege, to name a few. This success urged Scott to make the FOIL Premium even more aerodynamic and comfortable than before, while maintaining an incredible lateral stiffness.

Its HMX Carbon fibre frame has been completely redesigned to provide even less drag, helping you gain those extra precious seconds, and comes in as one of the lightest in the aero market. With a Syncros integrated handlebar system, Dura-Ace Di2 and Syncros Carbon components, this bike was designed to help you win every ride.

  • The Foil Premium features a F01 HMX Aero Carbon frame and forks, with a Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 22-speed groupset, and ZIPP 303 Firecrest carbon clincher wheels.

Description

2017 Scott Foil

The Foil is more than an aero road bike. Impressive comfort values, superb handling and smart integration make this bike the weapon of choice for many. Matt Hayman winning the toughest one-day race in the world, Paris-Roubaix, solidifies the bikes dynamic nature. It was a win that would have been impossible on a road bike that was only aerodynamic. The new Foil features the same lightweight frame characteristics as its predecessor, and is among the lightest aero bikes on the market.

The frame aerodynamics of the bike have been re-worked from the head-tube all the way down to the rear dropouts - stiffness and comfort values have been lifted to a new level.

"I find it hard to really criticise the Foil and exceptionally easy to praise it. It’s blisteringly quick yet performs like a very comfortable, normal road bike. No wonder it took Mat Hayman to victory. Sorry Tom." Cyclist Magazine

COMFORT ZONE CONSTRUCTION:  The Foil features a low seatstay attachment which in combination with a modified and noticeably thin seatstay shape leads to a smooth riding experience even on rough roads. The focused approach to improve comfort on the Foil resulted in an increase in vertical compliance by 86% of the seattube area compared to its predecessor. Additionally, the fork compliance has been increased by 11% compared to the first edition of the Foil.

HANDLING:  The Foil’s fork exhibits excellent stiffness values thanks to its tapered 1 ¼ to 1 ½ steerer tube which features an increased diameter compared to the first Foil. However, the Foil features an identical headtube width with an increased bearing size compared to the first edition given that the alloy insert for the bearing that was used on the previous model has been removed and frees space that is used for the larger steerer. Overall, an increase of torsional headtube stiffness by 13.5% has been achieved.

POWER TRANSFER:  The PF86 bottom bracket allows for a wide connection of the downtube and the tapered seattube to the BB box. Together with a stiffness-optimized lay-up and SCOTT’s patented carbon manufacturing process, the Foil’s BB stiffness has increased by 13%.

"My guess is that this will be one of the few times you’ll see the same frame win Paris Roubaix as well as sprint and Mountain stages at the Grand Tours" PEZ Cycling News

For the new model year we are offering exclusive Epic Wheel Upgrade packages across most of the Scott range, in addition to the standard specifications of course, that feature high-performance upgraded wheels at minimal cost. We also have extensive stocks of the standard specification bikes at everyday low prices - please contact us for up to date prices on these models.

2017 Scott Foil Technical Highlights

AERODYNAMIC CONSTRUCTION:  The Foil’s headtube features a head-to-toe aero profile with excellent aerodynamic properties especially at low yaw angles. The connection between downtube and headtube has been lowered and the transition between the frame and fork has been optimized. These changes in construction remove the gap behind the fork crown which results in air stagnation and increased aerodynamic drag. Similar effects are achieved in the seatstay area: the lowered seatstays decrease the gap behind the seat tube and the seatstays avoiding air stagnation and consequently drag.
