Design Details

The Palta III features a high seat stay attachment along the seat tube, improving vertical compliance, comfort, and traction while preserving lateral stiffness and pedalling efficiency. The distinctive “elbow” rear dropout design allows controlled vertical flex for added comfort, without sacrificing torsional rigidity.

Up front, the advanced fork architecture delivers precise handling alongside effective vibration dampening. Diamond-shaped tube profiles reduce weight while maintaining stiffness, placing material only where it is structurally needed. Clean fork dropouts remove visible threads for a refined finish, while the Basso SV (Sempre Veloce) inspired downtube is aerodynamically optimised to reduce frontal area, manage airflow efficiently, and maximise stiffness-to-weight performance.

Performance-Driven, Not Just Capable

The Basso Palta III is not simply a gravel bike. It is a performance-focused machine designed to make riding faster and more fun. Inspired by Basso’s “Sempre Veloce” philosophy, the Palta carries racing DNA into a platform that balances aerodynamics with off-road comfort.

The carbon layup has been reworked to optimise power transfer and control. Increased stiffness at the bottom bracket and rear triangle delivers more direct acceleration and confident climbing. At the same time, reduced head tube stiffness improves handling feel and comfort, creating smoother steering and better vibration absorption on rough terrain.

Aerodynamics have also taken a major step forward. Drawing on Basso’s road bike research, the Palta III delivers an 18 percent reduction in frontal aerodynamic impact. Tube shapes, particularly around the downtube, have been refined to reduce drag and streamline airflow, improving high-speed efficiency without compromising gravel capability.

Comfort, clearance, and smart integration

With clearance for tyres up to 50mm at the rear and 52mm at the front, the Palta III encourages lower pressures for improved comfort, grip, and control on long or demanding rides.

The second-generation 3B clamp system has been developed to further reduce vibration and improve ride comfort. Its hidden fixing, which cleverly incorporates a vulcanized shock absorbing layer, keeps the frame clean and elegant while delivering real functional benefits over distance.

Practicality is built in too. A discreet downtube storage compartment, hidden behind a colour-matched carbon cover, provides space for tools and essentials. Inside, two rugged, waterproof internal bags keep everything organised and protected. Access is secure and simple thanks to a Fidlock magnetic latch with a mechanical lock, staying firmly closed on rough terrain while remaining easy to open when needed.

Multiple mounting points across the frame allow for bolt-on top tube bags, additional bottles, frame bags, or accessories. Extra mounts under the downtube ensure you are properly equipped for long rides, races, or adventures.

Geometry and fit

The Basso Palta III is available in six frame sizes with overlapping fit ranges, allowing for a more tailored setup across a wide range of riders. A higher stack and sloping geometry provide stability, comfort, and control, especially over long distances, without dulling the bike’s responsive and engaging feel.

The result is a gravel bike that feels just as at home on the start line as it does disappearing down a long, winding dirt road.
