BIANCHI INFINITO CV

Bianchi Infinito CV

The latest incarnation of Bianchi’s category defining Infinito CV might well have a legitimate claim to the title of the World’s most versatile road racing bike – designed as the ultimate choice for fast long rides, the Bianchi Infinito CV is more than capable of tackling the very widest definition of what constitutes a road.

Think of it as an “all-road plus” bike.  Thanks to its patented Countervail construction, the Infinito CV delivers incredible handling precision over the worst of surfaces.  Combine that with huge tyre capacity for extra grip, comfort and puncture resistance, together with highly controlled and powerful braking – all enabled by properly thought through disc brake integration – and you have the perfect blend of speed, control and reliability needed to tackle just about anything.  From tarmac, to cobbles, to the worst of UK back lanes.  It can even take on light dirt and gravel without missing a beat.

The Infinito CV is a truly remarkable bike – it was the first frame in the world to use a revolutionary patented new material – Countervail, which quite simply cancels big road vibrations like no other frame material, leading to reduced muscle fatigue and greatly increased bike control. And we are not talking about eliminating “road buzz” – wider tyres are more than capable of controlling that.  What Countervail does is to reduce the frame shaking vibrations that come from bigger impacts, and result in lack of steering control.

We have tested the Infinito over a huge range of surfaces, right up to Roubaix style cobbles, and the experience is simply stunning.  Surfaces that are borderline unrideable on other road bikes are no issue at all – you just blast across them without a second thought, in total control. But you still remain connected with the bike and road – there is no sense of disconnection whatsoever.

At no point would Bianchi or we claim that the Infinto CV is a full-on gravel racing bike – you can’t fit 40mm+ knobbly tyres into its road geometry.  But what we can claim is that it is a true all-road racing bike.  We have even fitted 35mm Mavic Allroad tyres into their extra wide Allroad Carbon SL wheels, delivering a bike that is more than capable of hitting the absolute worst “road” surfaces imaginable.

With a slightly narrower rim (the Mavic Allroad Carbons are extremely wide) or 33mm cyclocross tyres there would be ample dirt clearance for proper gravel racing – it would just come up short of being able to tackle rocks or the muddy conditions that a true gravel bike would be capable of handling, but over more compacted or dryer conditions the Infinito CV is an absolute joy to ride at speed, as the Countervail means you can push things to the very limit while retaining total control.

The Bianchi Infinito CV isn’t just about vibration reduction and steering control though.  While those aspects tend to grab the headlines, Countervail has another trick up its sleeve.  It also allows Bianchi’s engineers to build high levels of stiffness into the areas of the frame that are crucial for power transfer – around the bottom bracket and chain stay – without introducing harshness or skittish handling associated with a lot of other stiff performance bikes.  Because make no mistake, the Infinito CV is at its very core a racing bike – just one that is easy to live with and enjoy over any distance and pretty much any type of road.

The key technology Countervail® is a carbon composite-material system that combines patented structural carbon with viscoelastic resin.

Bianchi collaborated with Materials Sciences Corp. to develop their innovative and exclusive application of the patented Countervail integrated vibration cancelling system for cycling. Scientific studies prove that long term exposure to vibration, typically absorbed by the rider, causes muscle fatigue and discomfort, resulting in reduced performance – and the stiffer the bike, in terms of flex under power, the more vibration becomes an issue, affecting not only comfort but stability and control at speed.

Traditional passive damping of the frame using superficial rubber inserts and isolators are only marginally effective compared to the integrated carbon Countervail system developed by Bianchi and proven in the extreme conditions of NASA aerospace operations.

Countervail isn’t a small insert or dotted around the frame in patches – that’s not the way it works! It is used in every tube as it needs to be across the whole frame to maximise cancellation. It doesn’t provide cushioning or masking, with the inherent issues of deadening the ride – it cancels vibrations before they reach the rider. Countervail is expensive stuff – but it’s worth every penny as it is quite simply unique in its ability to cancel vibrations and deliver control and power.

With its patented carbon fibre architecture and viscoelastic material, Countervail carbon material is actually embedded within the carbon layup of the frame, and cancels up to 80% of vibrations.

At the same time it enables Bianchi’s engineers to increase the stiffness and strength of the entire frame as the vibrations that are usually amplified by super stiff lay-ups are taken care of by the Countervail material.

ADVANTAGES OF COUNTERVAIL:

  • Maximized ride control and handling under normal to extreme vibration loads
  • Reduced muscle fatigue and increased energy savings in distance rides
  • Increased rigidity and peak power output over long distances

With its re-designed frame shape, the Infinito CV has been developed with an endurance-focused geometry and thru-axle rear dropouts for optimum integration with disc brakes.  Longer chainstays help to increase rough road stability and smooth out the ride, and a modified aerodynamic head-tube gives the rider a low-stress neck position, enhanced by Countervail’s vibration cancelling capacity and larger tyres.

FEATURES

INTEGRATED DISC BRAKES MOUNT:  The Infinito CV Disc frame and fork feature fully-integrated Flat Mount Disc brakes, delivering uniform power, increased efficiency and precise modulation for strong predictable braking, in any weather conditions. Compatible with 140 or 160mm rotors.

AERODYNAMICS:  The new Infinito CV Disc has been engineered to be more aero by using a new integrated-look carbon seatpost (and new fork – see below). The bike is also compatible with Metron 5D aero handlebar for those who want a special touch to the sleek overall aesthetic.

AERODYNAMIC FRONT END:  The Infinito CV Disc is fitted with a shallow curved blade, aero, full-carbon fork.  Featuring a 1.1/8 -1.5in taper steerer and 12x100mm thru-axle drop outs, for steering stability and precision and braking performance..

LARGER TYRES:  Larger volume tyres are the answer when riding long distances; adding extra grip and comfort without affecting rolling efficiency or speed. Compatible with tyres up to 32mm, extending the Infinito’s range beyond paved roads and onto dirt paths.

SQUADRA EDITIONS
