Cannondale Habit

The Cannondale Habit is the perfect trail machine – ready for literally anything, from a lunch-hour blast to a bucket-list destination. Light, versatile and supremely capable on just about anything the trail can throw your way.

In developing the Habit Cannondale bought  and tested leading trail bikes from all of their major competitors, to ensure that the Habit could match or beat rival machines in every area.  In doing so it was driven home to the Cannondale designers that some of the best riding bikes for one size of rider performed poorly for other sizes of rider.  This led directly to the development of “Proportional Response”.

The Habit’s all-new suspension design philosophy delivers a bike engineered for every size rider, meaning optimised kinematics for all. Utilising size-specific Center-of-Gravity (COG) data, the suspension linkage arrangement for every size of bike was tailored so that each rider experiences optimised suspension performance while braking, and improved overall pedaling efficiency. Proportional Response optimizes Habit’s ride for more control, more efficiency and flat out more fun, whatever your size.

Equipped with 29″ wheels, big grippy tires and 130mm of travel front and rear, the Habit is built to tame every trail.  Featuring modern trail specs, it is ready to ride with properly wide bars, short stem, powerful brakes, 1X drivetrain and, of course, a dropper post – all to give the rider complete command of the trail, any trail.

With a 66 degree head angle and a steep seat angle the Habit puts the rider in the right position for when the trails head up, and gets the saddle down low and out of the way when it’s time to get down.  Cannondale’s unique Asymmetric Integration (Ai) paved the way for the Habit to have short 435mm chainstays that are more nimble and capable in corners while still having loads of tire clearance and stiffness.

The Habit’s do-it-all persona is enhanced by the breadth of the range, with models based on both carbon and alloy platforms, as well as models with a carbon front triangle paired with alloy rear triangle.

The carbon in question is Cannondale’s proprietary BallisTec, a skilled layup of military-grade fibre and high-impact resin. The alloy is SmartForm C1 – sophisticated tubing that draws on Cannondale’s world beating tube forming techniques, from mechanical shaping to ultra-refined taper butting, and finished with Cannondale’s signature double pass smooth welds.

The Habit is designed to be a “daily ride” with proven durable suspension pivots, tube-in-tube internal cable routing and is built for easy service – no proprietary tools required.  Protection is added in the form of rubber shielding to strategic areas of the frame, helping to keep your bike in sound health.

LOCKR – Locking Pivot Thru-Axles

LockR’s unique expanding thru-axles create a super solid connection between swingarm and main frame, reducing flex and play between swingarm and frame to improve responsiveness.

A frame is only as stiff as its weakest parts. On dual suspension bikes, those weakest parts are often the crucial bearings and links that join the swingarm to the front triangle. The vague, imprecise sensation felt on so many bikes is caused by the subtle movement and flex that occurs in the connecting hardware as the loads on the bike shift from side-to-side.

To combat this, Cannondale created LockR. The LockR pivots are oversized thru-axles with expanding collets at each end. When tightened, these collets expand and lock inside both sides of the swingarm, making the axle a structural part of the swingarm and helping it resist twisting loads far better than conventional pivot axles. As a bonus, LockR axles require no special tools to adjust.

ASYMMETRIC INTEGRATION (Ai)

Ai is a proprietary system in which Cannondale moves the drivetrain outboard by 6mm to allow for ultra-short chainstays and a stiffer rear wheel, with none of the usual compromises.  Short stays are great for traction – they get the rear wheel in under the rider’s weight better on steep climbs – and they bring some much-needed agility and nimbleness to bikes with big diameter wheels.

If you look at most bikes with short chainstays, you’ll notice that they’ve made some significant sacrifices to get there.  They’ve given up clearance for bigger tyres or mud, or they’ve made their driveside chainstay super skinny and flexy.

Cannondale’s Ai system simply shifts the chainrings, front derailleur and chainstay over by 6mm, which creates tons of room for the wheel to come forward, shortening the stays without sacrificing anything.  But if you move the chainrings over, the rear cogs also need to move over to maintain ideal chainline.  Rather than creating some special wider, heavier rear hub, the Ai system takes a standard rear wheel and re-dishes it over by 6mm.  The result is even spoke angles and tension on both sides, resulting in a massively stiffer, stronger rear wheel, with no additional weight.

LINKAGE

Two piece alloy links keep the suspension moving smoothly.

FLIP CHIP

Flipchip allows riders to have 27+ compatibility with the same frame.

PROTECTION

Strategically placed rubber, such as under the down tube or inside the chainstay, protects your bike for total peace of mind.

I had tons of traction and not much pedal bob. The Habit – a reliable climber, has a good aggressive spec, and is able to take anything most trail centers would throw at it.” …“There was amazing small bump compliance. The bike felt super plush going over small and medium roots and rocks.PINKBIKE
