This year we saw the launch of the brand new Cannondale SuperSix Evo, an already legendary bike that has stepped up the game once again with ‘generation 4’.
The all-new SuperSix EVO v4 is Cannondale’s most complete road bike ever – redefining what you should expect from a fast road bike. It is super light, super aero, handles sublimely and looks stunning, because let’s face it that is just as important as performance! In essence, the SuperSix EVO has been designed to make you faster everywhere – up hills, down mountains, in a breakaway, hitting the front in a flat-out sprint.
With the release of a new bike, particularly one with such pedigree and the expectation that comes with this, there are always plenty of reviewers excited to get out on that first ride. We didn’t have to look very hard to find riders singing the SuperSix’ praises, and if you needed any more convincing then we’ve compiled some of them below.
Bicycling Magazine
“Cannondale took an already excellent race bike, its third-generation SuperSix Evo, and made it lighter and more aerodynamic. So it was not surprising that my impression after riding the new Evo was that Cannondale has a winner here. The overall feel of the bike is super reactive. Like a good race bike, it goes precisely where it’s pointed. It also has the rare ability to both hold a line through a corner and tighten down the turn seemingly at will. To say that the new Evo handles very well would be putting it mildly.”

“What the SuperSix Evo does so well—and what makes it an ideal race bike—is that it encourages you to go faster, no matter the situation. The Evo feels natural the moment you clip into the pedals. That ease translates to speed when, as you go faster, the bike seems to remove itself from your consciousness. The Evo lets you focus on riding fast instead of thinking about the bike’s limitations. Occasionally, you’ll rip around a turn with such speed that you won’t be able to help but giggle, smile, and remember that it’s possible because of the bike you’re on.”

“The SuperSix Evo also is no slouch in a straight line. I didn’t need independent wind-tunnel testing to tell me the Evo feels rapid. Fast aero bikes have a particular sensation, best described as a feeling of constant acceleration combined with refusing to let go of momentum. This sensation is not a quantifiable metric, but when a bicycle does it right, it’s felt instantly. In the same way, when you ride a non-aero bike, you feel its absence. The Evo is not a dedicated aero bike, but it feels like one.”

“As with the previous-generation Evo, the new bike’s uphill performance is excellent. That didn’t shock me, considering the latest version is lighter and seemingly did not lose any of its power transfer. The Evo is aided by a natural feeling out of the saddle, especially on very steep climbs. Even under maximum effort, it never feels twitchy as it rocks underneath you.”

“One thing the design team at Cannondale has an incredible knack for is ensuring the soul of the SuperSix Evo is unsullied with every passing iteration. The new model is unsurprisingly stiff around the headtube, bottom bracket and chainstays and this brings an assuring sense of familiarity to the package. It feels just like the previous model, only tighter and more refined.”

“…It’s super eager and responsive to pedal inputs and accelerates with ease – this is most notable when powering out of the saddle. The biggest change and the most tangible difference between the new model and its forebear is the level of comfort that Cannondale has managed to stitch into the ride without compromising any other area. The seat tube and seat stays are superbly compliant and iron out every road imperfection and pockmark.”

“Regardless of whether you prefer climbing in a seated or out-of-the-saddle position, you’re able to keep a comfortable pace and can feel the bike actively inch forward with every pedal stroke. It feels great and this responsive character keeps willing you to ride harder and pace things faster. It was fairly blustery on the day and a strong easterly wind was felt over the duration of the climb – something that slowed progress but didn’t adversely impact bike stability or handling.”

“The bike accelerates willingly, conquers climbs effortlessly, and sticks to the rear wheel of the local guide on the descent without having to use all six lives (or is it nine as with cats?). On the flat, the bike maintains speed very efficiently and convinced us with the aggressive and direct steering race bikes are known for. At the same time, it remains predictable in every situation and is forgiving in case of small mistakes.”

“The Cannondale SuperSix EVO 4 2023 is an incredibly exciting bike – the first of a new generation of lightweight race bikes. It focuses on new possibilities, builds on proven handling, and combines aerodynamics with low weight. At the same time, the bike manages to break through the uniformity of modern aero race bikes and ditches the competition in one swoop. With LAB71, Cannondale have also announced a series of top models that makes us look forward to what’s to come.”

“The relatively flat roads out of Girona gave me chance to press hard on the pedals. Despite being so skinny, the post and saddle combination felt compliant yet impressively stable. The low mass of the bike impressed as soon as we started climbing. The deep-section wheels may not be the climber’s choice, but the low overall weight of the bike means you can reap the aero benefits without feeling handicapped on ascents. I can see the new EVO being the basis of plenty of lightweight climber’s bikes in the future.”

“The open twists and turns of the Girona hills are a great proving ground for a bike such as the SuperSix EVO. Its sure-footed handling at speed and ability to hold a tight line is only enhanced by the faith I have in the GP 5000 tyres that were fitted to my test bike.”

“It’s easy – if not advisable – to ride the SuperSix EVO on the edge of reckless speed thanks to its eagle-eyed accuracy on challenging roads, SRAM’s controllable braking and the superb grip of the tyres. This all comes together to form road bike nirvana.”
