Go Long, Go Short, Go Fast. WorldTour Performance for Real World Rides.
Twenty years ago, the original Cannondale Synapse Carbon quietly redefined the road riding experience — and went on to become Cannondale’s best-selling bike of all time. Recognizing that most riders wanted more than the rigid, twitchy feel of pro race bikes or the overly mild “comfort” bikes of the era, the Synapse charted a new course. It blended race-level performance and low weight with real-world comfort and intuitive handling, setting the benchmark for what would become the Endurance road category.
Now, six generations later, the Synapse Carbon is still leading the way — more responsive, smoother than ever, and with best-in-class tyre clearance that opens up new terrain. What hasn’t changed is its faultless handling and unmistakable ride feel.
But don’t just take our word for it, here’s what the experts think after riding the new best in class endurance bike.

“A belter of a bike with a price tag to match.”
“I’ll admit I wasn’t expecting any fireworks from the Synapse in the performance department when it first arrived for testing, but it surprised me from the first ride. The handling feels a lot like the current SuperSix Evo, and there are hints of the SuperX in there, too, its race-focused gravel bike – particularly in the way it deals with vibrations and smooths out broken roads.”

“The frame is incredibly responsive, balancing stiffness and comfort superbly. Despite a longer wheelbase and chainstays, the Synapse is still pretty nimble, eager to respond to steering inputs, but still very predictable on descents and flowing sections of tarmac.”

“The Synapse Carbon 4 is one of my favourite bikes of the year…with its balanced geometry, aero-optimised carbon frame and well-sorted gearing. It took me by surprise, and probably will do many others, too.”

“…a bike that feels happy putting the power down on imperfect roads, with greater smoothness than many a gravel bike with road tires might accomplish.”
“Climbing on the Cannondale Synapse is a smooth affair. The added cushion from the 32 mm tires across all sizes does little to detract from the snap I’ve enjoyed from the bike while climbing, nor does the supposed added compliance of the bike. Quick bursts do little to make the bike feel unsettled, either, which I’ll credit to the bike’s slightly longer wheelbase.”

“Descending is a similarly smooth affair. The chattery, cracked roads that I often descend down can leave some race bikes skipping around, but none of that was present here. Turn-in is about average for an all-road bike at higher speeds, requiring a bit of body english to prevent the bike from understeering into a corner. But all things considered, I felt immediately comfortable on the bike. Rarely is that the case, particularly on my semi-technical, fast descents near me.”

“It’s on the flats where the Synapse seems to shine. All of that high-speed composure on the descents means you can have terrible sprinting form and not have any of the wheels skip or pop up (ask me how I know). Seated comfort is excellent, but the bike doesn’t feel unbalanced front to back either. It results in a bike that feels happy putting the power down on imperfect roads, with greater smoothness than many a gravel bike with road tires might accomplish.”

“The ride quality is sublime – it’s all at once remarkably smooth, hugely responsive, fast, forgiving, and above all, fun.”
“Over multiple rides (I’ve notched up more than 450 miles / 725km of testing so far), this Synapse has been epic. On rolling terrain, it’s rapid, easily feeling as quick as my SuperSix Evo in a straight line.”

“The SmartSense system links to Cannondale’s smartphone app, along with the wheel-speed sensor, and can be set to wake as soon as you’re moving – set the intensity of the light, and pair the radar to any compatible bike computer. I’ve tried it with both Garmin and Hammerhead units, and it’s worked flawlessly with both.”

“The excellent wheels and tyres contribute to the responsive ride, with the large-volume tyres adding to the smooth chatter-free ride. The bike handles rougher road surfaces with ease, and even a few small excursions onto unmetalled roads were taken in its stride.
Overall, I’m enamoured by just how well the Synapse handles.”
