Named after a favorite dirt road loop near Cannondale’s headquarters in Connecticut, the brand new Topstone is pure gravel goodness. With its high-volume tyres, confident rider position and sporty handling, it is ready to smash out big miles on the back-roads, explore routes less traveled, or smooth out the potholes on your morning commute.
The Topstone sits alongside the race-proven CAADX as a perfect bike to take on a huge range of surfaces – from rough paved roads through to grass, mud and rocky gravel. While the CAADX is aimed squarely as fast mixed terrain riding, including cyclocross racing, the Topstone is designed for adventure – still with a free-spirited grin on your face – this is no heavy plodder of a bike!
The Topstone, like the CAADX, is constructed from Cannondale’s refined SmartForm C2 alloy. The frame is paired with a lightweight carbon fork with a tapered 1-1/8” to 1-1/4” steerer and a head angle that offer a confidence-inspiring combination of high-speed stability and quick-handling agility —perfect for tackling mixed terrain and rough road surfaces. 12mm through axles feature front and back, offering a responsive ride and planted feel.
Frame geometry has been optimized to balance long-distance comfort with off-road handling, and so is close to that of Cannondale’s award-winning Synapse.
There is plenty of tyre clearance with the Topstone, comfortably allowing for tyres up to 42mm wide, or a little smaller if fitting mudguards using the discrete mounts and removable rear mudguard bridge.
Adventure riding of all types is catered for with three water bottle mounts, top-tube mounts for a nutrition or storage bag behind the stem, and rack mounts for panniers if bikepacking bags aren’t suitable for your adventures.
The frame is compatible with a 27.2mm dropper post, as fitted to the SRAM Apex 1x model, and the front derailleur mount is removable to allow for either a 2x or 1x drivetrain.
