Felt believe that fast is fun, whatever the terrain, and gravel (or multi-terrain) riding has well and truly arrived and is here to stay. Sure, riding drop bars on dirt isn’t a new thing. Many will rightfully point out that it’s been a way of life for many cyclists for as long as people have been riding bikes. Even historians remind us that the Tour de France began on gravel roads. But these days, there’s more design focus on the gravel riding scene, more riders in the game, and more people opening up to the wonderful world of mixed terrain adventure. And it’s awesome! That’s why Felt created the Breed. To further expand the incredible freedom a bicycle can offer. So whether you’re just discovering a new way of riding, or are a dyed-in-the-wool gravel grinding veteran, the Breed offers a sure footed fast riding bike that is quite simply a total blast to ride, wherever you take it.
Who says you can’t have it all? Different wheel sizes give you the freedom to run whatever size or type of tyre you wish. That’s why Felt made the Breed compatible with both 650b and 700c wheel sizes. The Breed comes standard with 700c wheels and tyres for maximum versatility and speed over less challenging surfaces, but the Breed can also be fitted with smaller diameter 650b wheels which, combined with extra wide plush gravel tyres, preserves the Breed’s geometry for a road bike feel but with mind-blowing cushioning and traction when the going gets rough. With 650b wheels, the Breed can accept up to 2.1-inch-wide tyres; with 700c wheels, there’s room for up to 45mm tyres.
Whether it’s a spare tube, tool kit, or some snacks, all-day gravel excursions may require extra supplies. The Breed features a mounting location along the top tube for installing a “bento box” storage bag. The two-bolt setup features standard water bottle cage spacing, which gives riders the freedom to utilize a wide selection of aftermarket storage solutions. The Breed also has you covered if the weather turns foul, or if you’re looking to commute by bike. It comes with a mudguard fitting kit in order to mount the majority of aftermarket mudguards. It also features cleverly hidden rack mounts for both utility and sleek aesthetics.
The Felt Breed frame is built from superlite aluminium for a highly responsive and agile ride, paired with a high-modulus lightweight carbon fork for handling precision and a forgiving ride. A custom yoke delivers the Breed’s massive tyre clearance, while its custom butted hydroformed tubing features premium SuperSmooth welding for sleek looks and high strength levels. The Breed’s geometry is aimed squarely at high performance/fast riding, combining short chainstays with a slack head angle – resulting in a planted ride with excellent power transfer for rapid acceleration or blasting over steep ramps.
Disc brakes are the new standard for drop-handlebar bikes in all riding conditions. They provide more stopping power, greater modulation (braking sensitivity), and more consistent performance than rim brakes, especially when the weather turns nasty. The Breed uses the Flat Mount disc brake standard for the best in performance and security, as well as clean aesthetics. Complementing the bikes’ disc brakes are 12mm thru-axles, which provide a more secure interface over traditional quick-release skewers, along with better stiffness for quicker acceleration, better handling, and crisper shifting.
The Breed uses a T47 standard bottom bracket, which has all of the benefits of old-school threaded bottom brackets, like creak-free performance and easy maintenance. But it also takes advantage of the latest technology to maximize stiffness for putting down all the watts. It’s durable and gets the job done exceptionally well, just like the Breed.
The Breed is available in two standard factory builds, both of which are 1x set-ups for simplicity and outstanding mud clearance, but the frame is also compatible with 2x drivetrains if you are looking for a greater choice of gears.
