The new Kinesis GTD is the natural evolution of the multi-award winning GF-Ti frameset – the ultimate Gran Fondo bike. But the Kinesis GTD is not just a Sunday best bike, it is the perfect Audax or fast-paced touring or bike-packing bike for trips over the roughest of roads. Comfortable, fast and adaptable the GTD is designed to take on everything from a local Sportive to an Intercontinental race epic like the TransContinental.
The original Gran Fondo Ti was a bike that originated directly from discussions between Kinesis UK and ourselves – we were desperately keen to see a Titanium frame that was suited for UK specific conditions, that offered agile performance, allied to sufficient comfort to handle long hours over some of the rougher UK back-roads, but that also had clearance for mudguards without the bike becoming slow handling in order to accommodate them.

“I tried it as a long-distance commuter, on some longer, hillier road rides and hit the trails and gravel, and it faced up to them all equally well. And while the GTD is a distance machine, the geometry has a fastish edge to it: sub-metre wheelbase, steep frame angles, longish top tube. Swap to narrower tyres and while not quite a race machine, you won’t be hanging around when you put the hammer down either. And, as Jo Burt found, you can fit a vast array of bikepacking luggage on Kinesis’s GTD … this is a fabulous bike in a great build that I never tired of riding. Carbon fibre may have been the king in 2019, but titanium in some ways has the beating of it” BikeRadar
Kinesis UK understand UK conditions better than anyone, and their knowledge of metal frame construction is unrivalled – so they were in our view better positioned than anyone else to deliver the ultimate all-round road bike. Close to a decade on and the successor to the GF-Ti, the GTD, is everything we envisaged and more!
Titanium is the perfect material for a genuine high-performance all-rounder – it is very lightweight, corrosion resistant, lively, comfortable and with a beautiful understated appearance. And if, as in this case, the titanium is of the highest quality with super-high purity levels it is also incredibly strong and reliable, making it ideal for use in tough conditions or when carrying a load. Beware cheap imitations – this is the real deal!
For the GTD Kinesis have drawn on over 10 years of experience working with titanium to create a new custom drawn 3Al/2v seamless tubeset from one of the world’s leading titanium suppliers. The GTD features the same fast, yet comfortable geometry as its predecessor, the GF-Ti Disc. However it now has increased tyre clearance, Thru Axle front and rear, and an overall lower frame weight. The warranty period on the GTD has also been increased to 5 years
The expertise of Kinesis UK shows at the rear of the GTD where they have curved the seat stays giving a beautifully compliant rear end, whilst straightening the chain stays to stiffen the frame laterally. They have been able to do this with the use of Flat Mount disc brakes which are more compact and fit in board of the stays.
“Cliché though it is, the magic carpet ride of the GTD puts you in mind to never look back. In fact, all kinds of long-distance fantasies were rattling around our head..Makes you want to cycle around the world” BikeEtc
The GTD features 12mm Thru Axles front and rear, using the exclusive Kinesis Tracer Disc Thru Axle carbon monocoque fork. In the search for improvement over the GF-Ti Kinesis have partnered with GW engineering and will use their patented ‘Switch Lever’, featuring a removeable lever, giving the GTD a much cleaner, less cluttered look.
As with other Kinesis frames, the GTD uses adaptable cable ports which allows you to build your frame with exactly the right cable routing for whether you are running Di2 or mechanical gearing with either a 1x or 2x set up. The frame has the full compliment of bottle mounts, rack mount, mudguard mounts and a chain pip on the seat stay, details to make riding and travelling with your bike better.
Kinesis have also integrated the replaceable rear derailleur hanger into both the Thru Axle and the dropout of the frame. This increases the rigidity of the rear hanger, without compromising its ability to break away in an emergency, giving you the tight and precise shifting your derailleur demands. The custom dropouts are CNC machined from solid billet titanium and feature a discreet Di2 routing hole, for super clean cable routing.
The Kinesis GTD comes to us as a frameset, which can then be built up into a complete bike in our workshop using components of your choice. With a huge variety of build options and tyre choices etc, you have the freedom to create your dream distance machine – the super refined GTD.
