The Lauf True Grit features the tag line “Just Ride” on its fork crown – and nothing sums the bike up more than this simple call to arms.  The True Grit is remarkable – yes, it’s arguably the fastest gravel bike in the world, but it’s so much more.

On the road you’d be forgiven for thinking the sophisticated bump-eating fork would make for a soggy and responsive ride.  To be honest we feared that would be the case too.  But how wrong we were.  On the road it does indeed excel when the lanes get gritty, but it just sings along on pretty much any surface.  There’s never any sense of disconnection – you feel totally planted, with accurate handling and fast reflexes, whatever lies under your wheels.

On gravel you can ride descents and corners like no other drop barred bike, and climb like no MTB.  Switch to the roads and it keeps up effortlessly with straight-up endurance bikes.  Load it up for adventure and you can go pretty much anywhere.  Designed and field tested in Iceland, bikes don’t get much tougher than the True Grit, but rarely are they so much fun either.

Is this the ultimate gravel-racing road-going superfast-adventure bike?  Yes, it probably is – as long as you intend to ride fast.  If it’s a comfy cruiser you are looking for, then you need to look elsewhere.  As the tag line suggests – it begs to just get out and ride (fast).

Colour Choice

The True Grit frameset is constructed from high modulus carbon fibre and beautifully finished in a choice of five hard wearing high lustre colourways (three standard and two premium).

The Lauf True Grit is certainly one of, if not the, fastest gravel bikes available. If your primary aim to complete a big mile challenge in record time, this is the bike for you, no contest. ADVNTR

We’ve tested the True Grit both in the UK through winter, and in Arizona and Colorado in the spring, and our testers have come out impressed…. the True Grit bought back the fun of old-school XC mountain biking, re-energising tame trails, offering a great way to link together fun dirt stretches on pavement without feeling anchored in a heavy MTB, and, perhaps most importantly, illuminating how good a bike can feel on gravel when it’s designated specifically for the task. BikeRadar

Stable in the wet, super smooth and very fast on all surfaces. The low weight means lightning acceleration. You can also hop the bike about like a MTB and drift the corners in control due in part to the fork. It’s that kind of bike that puts a smile on your face (even though I only rode it in torrential rain!). WeLoveMountains

The Lauf True Grit is leading the trend of a new age of bikes with enhanced capability and versatility that give nothing up in terms of all-around performance. This is no cross bike modified for gravel. Actually, with its geometry specifically designed to match the wild-looking but practical Grit SL fork, this is like no other bike on the market today. We know it’s early, but a sub-18-pound carbon gravel bike with front suspension that rides as impressively as the True Grit would easily make the bike a contender for Gravel Bike of the Year. The fact that it’s just as capable on the road only enhances the Lauf’s appeal. Road Bike Action

Lauf Grit SL

At the core of True Grit is the Lauf Grit SL, with its 30mm of front suspension – the thing that changed how gravel riding is perceived, now taken to the next level.

It’s more compact, lighter and stiffer (laterally and fore/aft) than the standard version.

Grit SL has superb small bump performance and maintains traction and control like no other. Making the ride more comfortable, with zero maintenance.

Single Piece Front Triangle

By using advanced molding technologies, bonded junctions are avoided and internal surfaces are kept smooth. Resulting in longer continuous carbon fibers and less unwanted material overlap. Thus a stronger and more efficient frame.

MTB Tested

The Lauf True Grit gravel frame has undergone serious testing as it meets the ISO standard for mountain bike frames.

This makes for a sturdy frame that handles all the fun at only 1.070g – Medium frame in Midnight Blue, including front and rear derailleur hangers.

Long 4 Speed – Geometry

The long top-tube paired with a short-ish stem, low headtube and a slack head angle give you a low and aerodynamic position with great stability at high speeds and in rough terrain. Making you “Long 4 Speed”.

The frames has been designed specifically to marry perfectly with the Grit SL fork to deliver optimal performance from this ground breaking micro-suspension unit.  The frameset has also been optimised for use with an in-line seatpost for perfect balance.

Tapered Headtube

The headtube is tapered (1.125” to 1.5”) for improved strength and control.

45mm of Rubber

The True Grit can take up to 45mm 700c tires* – with ample room for the elements. That’s a whole lot of rubber when things get dirty.

All this with short 425mm chainstay length, without intruding on the space for the crankset.

*Bikes with eTap front derailleurs are limited to 40mm tires at the rear, due to battery/tire clearances.

Beer or Gear?

The Beer Or Gear front derailleur design opens up endless possibilities.

Most True Grit riders are going to want the mechanical robustness and simplicity of 1×11 drivetrains. These riders will get a bottle opener where a front derailleur would otherwise be.

However, there will be some road-biased True Grit riders that want to get the classically tight gear spacing of a road bike (while the gear range of a 1×11 and 2×11 is actually almost the same). These riders have the option of using SRAM eTap 2×11 drivetrains.*

In-N-Out Cabling

With In-N-Out Cabling, the rear derailleur cable and rear disc brake hose have entry points at the head-tube, then they miraculously pop out at the optimal locations.

No hassle and no annoying rattling inside the frame.

3x Bottle Mounts

Three bottle mounts come in handy for a long day in the saddle. On top of that the top tube has mounts for a bento box for easy access to food or other smaller items for the long haul.

Threaded Bottom Bracket

For the tried and tested ease of maintenance and creak free riding. It costs more to produce, but it’s worth it!

LAUF TRUE GRIT – Sample Builds

All Lauf bikes arrive with us initially as bare framesets, which we can custom build to your own unique specification.  You may already have a very clear idea of exactly what you would like, but if you are still working through options and playing with ideas we are only too happy to offer our advice on what would work well with the particular frameset and style of riding you have in mind.  Below are sample builds, simply for illustration.

We are currently experiencing supply issues on a number of smaller individual components, parts and accessories, which means we are unable at this time to offer our usual customisation or tailoring services.

As a result we are temporarily unable to offer any fully custom bikes that are built from bare framesets.

We are also temporarily limiting the customisations we can offer to factory built bikes to wheelset upgrades and tyre swaps.

Please note that we are receiving an unprecedented number of orders during the Covid-19 crisis, leading to a longer than usual queues and lead-time before bikes can be built by our workshop team.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during these exceptional times.
