The DSX is a rowdy flat bar gravel bike built using Marin’s highest level aluminium frame and carbon fork. It is aimed at the playful end of the gravel bike category, and has been designed for rider who prefer the comfort and heads up positioning of a flat handlebar, but who still want a fast and lightweight bike for multi-terrain riding – components aside, it bears an obvious passing resemblance to old school rigid MTBs, but in contrast to those 80’s rigs it features a thoroughly modern gravel geometry and huge amounts of versatility, all wrapped up in an engaging and low maintenance package. Call it whatever you like – the DSX is cool, fun and excellent value for money.
This is a corking bike for the price, thoughtfully put together with room for some home upgrades too. Reasonably priced, yet still very capable bikes like this will be a catalyst for more riders trying out gravel riding as an entry point to cycling. Call it whatever you like, but there’s no denying that this little bike is a lot of fun. ADVTNR.CC
The DSX offers an agile but stable gravel geometry, with a low standover height, keeping the main triangle stiff and manoeuvrable, as well as easy to step over if using it for commuting duties in street clothes. The groupset has hydraulic disc brakes, for top end braking performance and a 1x drivetrain for smooth a reliable shifting. The Marin DSX range has huge tyre clearance, and comes as standard with 700x45mm tires, but has room for 29×2.1” if you’re looking to take it into rougher terrain.
The DSX features a butted and formed ‘Series 3’ 6061 aluminium frame with internal cable routing, tapered headtubes, 142x12mm thru-axles, flat mount disc brakes, and rack and mudguard eyelets. The quality of the frameset makes it an ideal base for future upgrades – whether it’s wheels, larger volume tyres, lightweight finishing kit or a dropper post (for gravel racers and riders that spend significant time on rough surfaces, the DSX features internal dropper post routing ).
At Epic Cycles we have chosen to focus on stocking the DSX2 as we think it represents the sweetspot in the DSX range and offers outstanding value for such a high performance package. Key upgrades over the base DSX model include:
- Shimano Deore 6100 1×12 drivetrain
- Shimano hydraulic disc brakes
- Tubeless Ready wheels
Overall, the DSX, while being designed first and foremost as a capable and exciting flat bar gravel bike, offers a versatile package capable of fast commutes, long weekend adventures spanning paved roads and light singletrack, and all-day gravel events.
