Orbea created the Avant Carbon range for performance-orientated riders looking to extend their horizons, whether in terms of distance or in terms of the kinds of “road” surface they are riding over. In other words, a fast bike that reduces fatigue, is designed to ride long distances, and that is perfect for the biggest of challenges – Gran Fondos, dirt road epics and marathon road events. But it is equally suitable for riders wanting a fast p[aced bike but a slightly less extreme position.
Flexibility and practical performance in real-world conditions have been the key design principles for the Avant’s development – mechanical or electronic shifting, powerful and ultra controllable disc calipers, big tyre clearances. The Avant is perfect for everything from spring racing on rough roads and cobbles, to all day epics where reduced rider fatigue is paramount.
The Avant’s Endurance Geometry is a result of Orbea’s years of research and experience into the ergonomics of long distance riding. Unlike traditional racing geometry that is focused on aerodynamics and short distance acceleration, endurance ergonomics are optimised to reduce fatigue and enhance stability in order to enable riders to ride for longer or over rougher terrain with ease.
The distance between axles is a little longer, which means the bike is stable, easy to handle and has excellent vibration absorption for increased comfort. A higher handlebar position combine with a slightly shorter reach to allow for a more relaxed position, which again reduces riding fatigue after a long ride, especially one over rough roads.
The Avant Carbon uses Orbea’s “OMP” high modulus carbon fibre for high strength to weight ratios, enabling Orbea to produce the same ride feel and reliability as heavier fibres but at a lower overall frame weight. The Avant Carbon Disc also allows for larger tyres, which extends the versatility of the Avant even further, onto rougher terrain.
MyO Custom Colours
For years the flexibility of Orbea’s MyO programme has allowed riders to personalize their bikes to an extent that is unique in the industry, thanks to the fact that every bike they offer is manufactured in Europe and all carbon frames are painted to order in Spain.
Now Orbea have added the option of a fully custom coloured Avant Carbon, at no additional cost, that is painted and assembled entirely at their headquarters in Mallabia – in the heart of the Basque Country.
Orbea’s in-house manufacturing capabilities and know-how allow them to pay meticulous attention to every step of the MyO process so all you have to do is choose the colours, select your component options and, if you would like to, add your name to the top tube.
The MyO custom paint system is very straightforward and slick, offering a massive number of the frame colour combinations, and is great fun to use. Designing your dream bike incurs no additional cost, and your MyO Avant Carbon will be delivered to you in an average of six-eight weeks after placing your order (please note the leadtime varies according to demand and where we are in the season).
