The Orbea Denna builds on the success of the award Orbea Gain, the bike that revolutionised the e-Road category, by adding everything they have learned in the lightweight e-MTB sector through the Rise and in the gravel category through the Terra, to deliver a refined ride and multi-terrain capability that is quite simply World beating.
Fundamental to the design of the Denna is Orbea’s understanding that generic motors won’t provide the experience that riders want. In e-Road they developed the concept of ‘Enough Power’, so that a true road riding experience was maintained, while in e-MTB they partnered with Shimano to develop ‘Rider Synergy’, which delivers the most natural feel on the market.
Now Orbea have found a way to create specific motor tuning that combines the best of both concepts over the ever changing terrain of gravel riding – designed to enhance, not dominate, while maximising range to help you get the most out of every ride. The new Orbea Denna is for those who want a super capable e-Road bike: with more power, more range and huge tyre clearance that allows them to go beyond the limits of the tarmac.
The Denna is all about removing limits. Gravel-tuned assistance offers power for the steepest climbs, traction for the loosest surfaces and range for the longest rides. No matter the terrain, wide tyre clearance and a frame designed for a smooth ride make big days in the saddle a pleasure.
TUNED SHIMANO EP8 MOTOR – RS GEN2 RC
Where other brands use the same motor across different categories, Orbea believe that the only way to offer optimal performance is by customising the motor to suit the application.
RS stands for Rider Synergy – Orbea’s very own firmware for Shimano EP motors. It allows rider and bike to work in perfect synergy and gives the most natural ride. Gen 2 means that this is the second generation of Orbea’s RS firmware – this increases the maximum torque to 85Nm. RC is short for Road Control, a specific motor tune for Denna. It gives natural, powerful assistance for narrower tyres than used in e-MTB.
CUSTOMIZED PROFILES
The new EP8 motors offer a choice of two profiles. The GR (Gravel) profile offers the most natural ride and the longest range. This works best on smoother surfaces where you can maintain a higher cadence. The GR PLUS (Gravel Plus) profile is ideal for looser surfaces, where more torque is needed at lower cadences to maximise traction.
Through the e-Tube app the most demanding users can even tune the two profiles, Gravel and Gravel +, for their ride and configure up to the maximum 85Nm of assistance. Each of Shimano’s 3 classic modes (Eco, Trail and Boost) are accessible in both profiles and can be selected from the handlebar remote.
Key to the ride quality of the Denna is a new gravel geometry, that offers a low stand over height, longer reach and shorter seat tube than found in more road orientated e-bikes. The Denna’s geometry helps to make riding rougher surfaces easy.
When designing the Denna, Orbea’s engineering team focused on four key areas to support precise handling, comfort and stability: a longer top tube that works with a shorter stem to give precise control; a lower bottom bracket and a longer wheelbase to increase stability on rougher surfaces; size-tuned fork trail (ranging from from 73mm to 60mm) offering a tailored experience, no matter the rider size; and optimised chainstay length – long enough to smooth out the ride but short enough for quick handling.
Balanced weight distribution, with a low centre of gravity and gravel-tuned geometry make the Denna easy to ride when things get difficult. The addition of wider tyres and a frame which soaks up chatter means the Orbea Denna is a safe companion on rougher paths. Wider tyres, up to 700x50mm in size, provide maximum grip and comfort and unlock new adventures.
And all of the Denna’s capabilities and performance come with the reassurance of Orbea’s lifetime frameset warranty.
Orbea’s custom batteries feature a very high energy density, which means means more range for less weight. They are some of the lightest and slimmest on the market and combined with the energy savings from the RS Gen2 RC firmware, mean the the average rider will get up to a whopping 3500 meters of climbing from the 1.95Kg 420Wh battery. And if you need more, you can add Orbea’s 210 Wh range extender, which is smaller than a water bottle and weighing in at just 1.05 kg.
The Denna provides a smooth ride on dirt, gravel or just about anything else you might encounter. The design and layup of the OMR carbon frame allows Orbea to introduce controlled flex. The tube shapes allow vertical flex but resist lateral flex. All this smooths out rough surfaces without losing composure or draining your energy. The ultra smooth-welded Denna Hydro utilizes premium alloy tubing for the ultimate in trail toughness, while up front the carbon Denna fork features longer legs for absorption & bump compliance, a stiff crown for rigidity & precise tracking with capacity for 50c tires with 5mm clearance on each side.
The Denna also features a host of sleek finishing touches, such as internal cable routing, integration with Garmin head units and all Denna models come equipped with mounting points for fenders, rack, two water bottles and bags.
MyO Custom Colours
Orbea’s MyO (My Orbea) system is a unique offering in the industry, allowing customers to personalise their frameset with fully custom colours on every Denna carbon model – all at no additional cost. Each bike is painted and assembled to order at Orbea’s headquarters in Mallabia, located in the heart of the Basque Country.
The on-line MyO custom design app is intuitive and user-friendly, offering an extensive range of frame colour combinations and a fun design experience. The app also provides a rough estimate of lead times, which are typically a few weeks longer than for standard colours. Once your order is placed and added to Orbea’s painting schedule, we’ll be able to give you more precise production timings.
