The Orbea Rise revolutionized the lightweight e-MTB world with its “more bike, less E” philosophy, shattering expectations of how an e-bike should ride by delivering an incredibly natural feel. Now, the new Rise sets an even higher benchmark — it’s lighter, more capable, and boasts an even greater range. Yet the natural, involving ride quality that defined the original Rise remains fully intact — perhaps even enhanced. The latest Rise now offers two distinct versions: the LT (Long Travel) for tackling the toughest terrain, and the SL (Super Light) for maximizing range and agility, while minimizing weight.
Tuned Rigidity
The Orbea Rise has rewritten the rule book on e-bike handling. Bikes can often be too stiff or too flexible, but high-performance machines require the right amount of rigidity in the right places — a principle Orbea calls Tuned Rigidity.
Achieving precisely tuned stiffness is challenging, especially when aiming to deliver a consistent ride experience across all frame sizes — perhaps why it’s so often overlooked. Computer modeling and lab tests can only take development so far. For Orbea, the breakthrough came from correlating lab results with extensive real-world testing. Finding the sweet spot required many prototypes and countless evaluations. They redesigned the shock linkage and reshaped the tubes that form the rear triangle, resulting in a 14% increase in rear triangle stiffness and an 8% improvement up front.
Asymmetric frame design allows Orbea to fine-tune torsional rigidity across all frame sizes — a crucial factor behind the Rise’s intuitive handling. Already proven on the Occam and Rallon, the Rise’s asymmetric frame is key to achieving optimal structural performance.
This design gives Orbea the flexibility to adjust rigidity for each frame size, ensuring that as tube lengths and leverage ratios change, the Rise’s ride feel remains consistent. The placement of the brace, combined with Orbea’s SBS (Secure Battery System) — which eliminates compromises in frame structure — further boosts torsional stiffness. The result: precise, confident handling and the best ride performance, no matter the trail.
Rider Synergy
“Less E, More Bike” means more natural assistance — and longer, more rewarding rides. Achieving a ride this good is only possible when power and range are considered together, from the very beginning. Everything is about balance.
At the heart of the Rise is Orbea’s unique Rider Synergy (RS) firmware and electronics, delivering the most natural, elastic assistance and best-in-class battery range for truly epic adventures.
The Rise’s second-generation firmware and electronics allow riders to configure motor output up to 85Nm — perfect for tackling the toughest terrain. It also offers two rider-configurable modes: RS and RS+.
RS mode delivers maximum range with lower torque, ideal for riders who love Rise’s natural, elastic ride feel. It’s optimized for epic adventures, providing assistance in the cadence range where your body works most efficiently.
RS+ mode unlocks the full 85Nm of torque, offering a ride that remains natural but feels more powerful at lower cadences when you’re pushing harder. Designed for conquering steep climbs and technical trails, RS+ is perfect when you need a bit more punch.
Both modes are fully configurable using the Shimano E-Tube app, allowing you to fine-tune the ride to match your personal style.
Shimano EP Motors
The Shimano EP family features some of the most accurate sensors and fastest monitoring capabilities on the market — and Orbea’s RS Gen2 firmware is specifically designed to harness that precision. The result is instant, lag-free power delivery that feels completely natural and alive.
At lower effort levels — when you’re riding below your threshold — you naturally need less assistance. Here, the EP8 RS firmware finely tunes power delivery, conserving battery life while maintaining a natural ride feel. Thanks to the combination of highly accurate sensors and rapid monitoring, the motor responds instantly to these subtle changes.
Orbea estimates that their RS firmware offers around 30% to 50% more range compared to comparable batteries in full-power systems.
Battery Options
Orbea’s batteries offer some of the highest energy densities on the market, delivering more range with less weight. Paired with the natural RS Gen2 assistance, the system works seamlessly with you — providing power precisely when needed and conserving it elsewhere — leading to substantial increases in range.
The Rise offers multiple battery configurations, with up to 840Wh of total capacity, so you can tailor range and ride feel to your needs. Riders seeking the best handling and lightest setup will choose the 420Wh battery, adding the new range extender for longer weekend adventures if needed. Those prioritizing maximum range can opt for the 630Wh battery, again with the option of a 210Wh extender. Since rider weight significantly impacts range, heavier riders may also prefer the 630Wh configuration.
The 420Wh battery weighs just 1.95kg and offers impressive range: approximately 4 hours or 2300m of elevation gain in Eco mode, 3 hours or 1600m in Trail mode, and 2 hours or 1100m in Boost mode. The larger 630Wh battery weighs 2.9kg and extends range to around 6 hours or 3500m of climbing in Eco mode, 4.5 hours or 2500m in Trail mode, and 3 hours or 1600m in Boost mode.
For even bigger days, the 210Wh range extender is a compact, lightweight solution — smaller than a water bottle and weighing just 1.05kg. It adds up to 1.5 hours of riding time in Eco mode and 1 hour in Trail mode.
All of this is possible because Orbea design their own batteries, creating unique solutions that integrate seamlessly with their frames. This smart integration optimizes frame space, lowers the center of gravity, and boosts overall performance.
Rise LT and Rise SL
Trail riders have different visions of the perfect ride, so Orbea offers two distinct versions of the Rise to match every style.
The Rise LT is the trail shredder’s e-bike, featuring a 160mm fork paired with 150mm of supple rear travel. Its aggressive trail geometry puts riders in the ideal position to attack any trail. Plus, the Attitude Adjust system lets you fine-tune the Rise LT to suit whatever adventures you have planned.
With Orbea’s Quick Flip system, switching between High and Low takes just seconds. Thanks to its clever offset design, you simply loosen the bolt — using the 6mm hex tool conveniently stashed in the rear axle — and lift slightly on the top tube. The entire adjustment takes less than 15 seconds.
The Rise SL is a fast, agile trail bike with 140mm of travel front and rear, delivering a nimble, responsive ride on flowier trails. Its geometry is designed for speed, striking a perfect balance that positions you to maximize flow and momentum on every adventure.
RS Control System
Orbea’s new unique RS Control System combines motor controls, ride information, and smart dropper functionality into a single ecosystem, linked by Orbea’s communication system and controlled by a compact, and intuitive remote – all powered by the Rise’s main battery.
Every contact point and detail is designed to be tactile and easy to use, even on the roughest trails. Wired CAN-bus communication adds reliability and eliminates the need to charge additional batteries. This creates a fully interconnected system that simplifies the rider’s experience while also offering entirely new functionality.
As well as improving on the expected functions Orbea have added some new features which bring totally new functions.
- Multiple Mounting Positions – the clamping system allows you to change the handlebar positioning to get the perfect fit for your hands.
- Precision You Can Feel – larger surfaces, tactile textures, and a satisfying click give clear feedback with every press. Button positioning has also been refined, placing the most used functions exactly where you need them, so control feels natural, fast and effortless.
- Motor Control Features – as soon as you touch it, you feel the difference. Larger, textured buttons offer clear tactile feedback, even with gloves on, ensuring every input is precise and instinctive.
- Motor Assistance – the front LED clearly shows the assistance level, including when walk mode is activated.
- Profile Change – switch ride profiles instantly with a single press, allowing changes from RS to RS+ in seconds.
- Super Boost – unlock maximum assistance for a predefined burst of power when you need it most. Ideal for short sharp climbs.
- Battery Display – the minimalist 5-LED display keeps you focused on the ride, showing battery status in 10% increments.
- Dropper Control – the electronic lever feels just like a traditional mechanical dropper, but smoother. Thanks to the clever sensors in Orbea’s new dropper post they were are also able to add new SMART features.
RS Dropper
The Orbea MC10 RS Dropper is a key part of the system, and is simply one of the most complete droppers on the market today. As well as the best traditional mechanical features, the dropper features a time-of-flight sensor to unlock new smart features.
At just 548 grams for 240 mm of travel, the MC10 RS sets a new benchmark for weight-to-travel ratio in its class. It offers smoother and faster travel, something which is important for longer travel droppers – and using a simple, tool-free shim system, you can quickly adjust the travel by 25mm in 5mm increments to dial in your perfect drop.
One of the lowest stack heights on the market means you can fit a longer travel dropper into any frame. This lets you take full advantage of Orbea’s ‘Steep and Deep’ design and drop your saddle as low as possible, even on smaller frames.
The electronic dropper lever delivers the crisp, responsive feel of a mechanical system but with added functions that are only possible with a digital system. The lever is fully replaceable.
“Smart” dropper Features
The electronic remote operates just like a traditional remote, you push it and can set the post to any height you want. Using a Time of Flight sensor opens up new functions:
Partial Drop. With a double click
Drops the saddle by 20%, lowering your center of gravity for better control on steep, technical sections. The amount of drop is fully programmable via the RS-App.
Ready-To-Drop. Press once and drop when you are ready
A short press on the lever activates the dropper, ready to be dropped whenever is convenient. That way you can keep your hands on the bars when things get gnarly.
Classic Mode. Long push to block smart features
Press and hold the lever and it works just like a mechanical dropper: press to move, release to set the height. In fact, thanks to the precise feel of the lever, you’d be hard pressed to tell it’s not a perfectly tuned mechanical system.
Orbea MyO
Orbea’s MyO program allows riders to personalize their bikes to a level unmatched in the cycling industry. Every Rise carbon model is available with a fully custom-colored frameset at no additional cost — painted and assembled entirely at Orbea’s headquarters in Mallabia, in the heart of the Basque Country.
