SURLY MIDNIGHT SPECIAL

Surly Midnight Special

Big Tyred All-Road Bike For Big Days Out

The Surly Midnight Special is a ‘road plus’ bike designed to provide comfort and speed on those all-day rides that extend well beyond fresh pavement – whether you are tackling paved roads or rough dirt tracks, the Midnight Special is a fun and reliable companion, however long you ride for, whatever the conditions.  Back lane exploration, off-road adventures, commuting – it has everything covered.

When it comes to ‘road bikes’, Salsa wanted a bike where you can just toss a few bananas into your pockets and see where the road takes you.  And the Midnight Special is exactly that.  It shines on pot-holed, deteriorating pavement and long stretches of gravel or dirt. Its 650b road plus tyres eat up road chatter and absorb surface bumps like the champion it was designed to be.  If you’re heading out onto muddier or looser surfaces then just fit some big gnarly tyres and the Midnight Special can tackle it all without skipping a beat.

Higher volume tyres allow better fine-tuning of tyre pressure on varying surfaces and create a wider contact patch for increased traction.  Modern road standards like flat-mount disc brakes, 12mm front and rear thru-axles, and a 44mm head tube make the Midnight Special ideal for hard riding, and offer the future proofing needed to ensure it will be with you for the long term.

With ample clearance for tyres of up to 650b x 60mm or 700c x 42mm without mudguards (650b x 50mm or 700c x 38mm with), there’s no limit to the type of surface you can ride on.  And with a full set of mounts for mudguards, racks and 3 bottle cages, you are well set up to take on a full set set of weather conditions and luggage hauling options, whether you favour large capacity panniers or lightweight bikepacking bags.

Sustainability is key to Surly’s vision, and combining environmentally sensitive processes and packaging with high quality, reliable and repairable materials delivers on this in spades – the Midnight Special is built to last!
