Wilier’s Fastest Ever Road Bike

The Wilier Filante ID2 is the very latest evolution of Wilier’s flagship aerodynamic race bike, developed in close collaboration with the Groupama-FDJ United Cycling Team. Every aspect has been refined around one objective: making speed more efficient, controllable and usable in the real world. Now available in two carbon lay-ups, the SL and SLR, the new Filante offers riders a choice of price points and stiffness levels, making it a true aero all-rounder.

Colour: Pure White (Filante SLR ID2)

Rather than treating aerodynamics as an end in itself, Wilier has focused on the complete rider-and-bike system. The result is a machine that combines exceptional aerodynamic efficiency with precise handling, responsive power transfer and a considered level of comfort.

Colour: Eclipse Black (Filante SLR)

The development process has produced a significant step forward over the Filante ID1. Wind-tunnel testing at Silverstone recorded a 13.6% reduction in frame drag, exceeding Wilier’s CFD predictions, while the complete rider-and-bike system improved aerodynamic resistance by 4.5%. At 40 km/h, the Filante ID2 requires 14.15 watts less power than the previous model to maintain the same speed. Over a 70 km course ridden at 290 watts, that translates into a potential saving of around 1 minute 45 seconds.

Against five other top-level WorldTour aero bikes, the Filante ID2 also recorded an average aerodynamic resistance coefficient 2.42% lower, reinforcing its position as one of the most aerodynamically efficient race bikes in its class.

Aerokit: integrated aerodynamic efficiency

One key development is Wilier’s new Aerokit system, created in collaboration with Elite Cycling. The system addresses one of the most difficult areas of an aero bike to optimise: the downtube and bottle interface.  Available in two versions – Aerokit SL and Aerokit SLR – the system offers the choice of integrated Filante specific bottles or an integrated cage with standard round bottles.

The SLR system in particular, with its custom designed bottles, is designed to sit closely against the frame, helping to smooth airflow and reduce turbulence around the bottles. Wilier describes it as effectively acting like a spoiler, with aerodynamic drag reduced by more than two-thirds compared with a conventional bottle and cage arrangement.  The SL system still offers aerodynamic benefits over a conventional cage system, but with the added practicality of being able to use and standard bottle.

For riders who prefer traditional style cages and bottles, the frame remains compatible with standard cages, accommodating bottles up to 550 ml on the downtube and 750 ml on the seat tube.

Aero Carbon R-Bar and F-Bar ID2

The new R-Bar (Filante SL models) and F-Bar ID2 (Filante SLR models) integrated cockpits were developed alongside Groupama-FDJ United riders, combining aerodynamic performance with a more refined ergonomic design.  Both cockpits delivery full internal cable routing and a sleek aerodynamic profiles, with the R-Bar offering a slightly more relaxed riding position.

Its Optimized Ergonomic Flare (O.E.F.) creates a 3 cm difference between the upper and lower grip widths. Available in 35/38, 37/40 and 39/42 cm configurations, the design maintains a consistent control position while allowing the lower section of the bar to provide a more aerodynamic stance.

The handlebar clamping hardware is fully concealed for a cleaner appearance, improved protection against dirt and sweat, and further aerodynamic gains. The systems also comply with current UCI regulations.

Aerodynamics in every detail

Wilier has applied the same attention to detail to the fork. Multiple NACA-derived profiles were analysed through CFD, with the fork shapes tested alongside different wheel and tyre combinations and across a range of wind angles.

Premium Colour: Aurora Blue (Filante SLR)

The resulting fork combines an external NACA profile with a flatter inner surface, while a more pronounced crown increases torsional stiffness and resistance to load.

An aerodynamic fin on the left fork leg partially shields the disc and brake caliper, while the thru-axle clamping hardware is integrated into the right fork leg. Both details contribute to a cleaner airflow and a more cohesive overall design.

Wilier Filante SL

The new D-shaped seatpost follows the same philosophy, balancing aerodynamic efficiency, low weight and vertical compliance. Its slender profile reduces drag while retaining the stiffness required for a race bike. It is supplied with a 0 mm offset, with a 15 mm setback option available on request.

Lower centre of gravity

The Shimano Di2 battery has been relocated from the seatpost to the bottom-bracket area. This makes the battery easier to access for inspection or replacement and allows the seatpost and saddle position to remain untouched during servicing.

The lower position also contributes to a lower centre of gravity, working with the lowered Aerokit to improve stability and control at high speeds.

Race-focused frame design

The rear triangle retains the distinctive character of the previous Filante, including its broad stays and angular junction with the seat tube, but the structure has been substantially redesigned.

Wilier’s analysis of the interaction between the frame and rider during pedalling led to the stays being angled inward by 2.5 degrees. The rear triangle has also been slightly lengthened to accommodate modern electronic drivetrains, the UDH dropout standard and wider tyres.

Colour: Pivot Grey (Filante SL)

Tyre clearance has increased to 34 mm, giving the Filante ID2 greater versatility without compromising its aerodynamic focus.

The removable front derailleur mount also allows the bike to run a 1x drivetrain, with chainrings up to 55 teeth. This provides a clean and lightweight configuration for riders prioritising outright race performance.

Balanced rather than extreme

Wilier has deliberately avoided chasing minimum weight at the expense of aerodynamic efficiency and high-speed stability. The Filante ID2 is designed around a balance of aerodynamics, stiffness, weight and responsiveness.

Colour: Solar Bronze (FIlante SLR)

Its monocoque frame uses a combination of Toray T800, T1100 and M46JB carbon fibres, selected to deliver the required combination of stiffness, responsiveness and weight. In a Dura-Ace Di2 specification, the complete SLR bike weighs approximately 7.1 kg.

The result is a range of race bikes that remain light and responsive while being optimised for the speeds and demands of modern road racing.

Premium Colour: Firefly Red (Filante SLR)

Precision fitting

The Filante ID2 is also designed around a highly adjustable fit. Developed with input from Groupama-FDJ United, Wilier’s AccuFit system maintains consistent geometry across six frame sizes while offering extensive cockpit and saddle-position adjustment.

With seven spacer combinations, five stem lengths and two seatpost options, the system provides 420 possible configurations, with changes as precise as 2 mm between setups.

That level of adjustability allows the Filante ID2 to be configured around the individual rider rather than forcing the rider into a fixed position.

Colour: Lunar Grey (FIlante SLR)
